M40 Glow Plug Engine
The M40 is a 2-Cycle Glow Plug Engine, with .4 cubic inches of displacement.
Unlike conventional spark-ignition engines that use a spark plug for ignition, the glow plug engine employs a unique mechanism. The engine relies on a specialized glow plug, which is a coil of platinum wire encased in a ceramic sheath. Before starting the engine, the glow plug is heated by an external power source, causing it to emit a red-orange glow. Once the fuel mixture is introduced into the engine, the heat from the glow plug initiates ignition, driving the engine’s operation. After the engine reaches operating temperature, power to the glow plug is disconnected.
