Air Carbon Arc Gouging

Air carbon arc gouging uses an electric arc to melt metal. The molten metal is blown clear of the melt zone by a stream of compressed air. The electrode is similar to an SMAW electrode except is is generally composed of a carbon core with a (generally copper) conductive covering.

Carbon arc gouging is a thermal process that uses a carbon electrode to remove metal from a workpiece. This process is often used in the metal fabrication industry for a variety of applications, including removing welding beads, breaking up slag inclusions, and cutting metal for repair or alteration.

As such, it should only be performed by trained and experienced professionals who understand the potential risks and take the necessary safety precautions.
